What is Zealyst?
Zealyst is a curated networking service that produces unique customized events that yield high impact connections amongst attendees. Our software matches attendees according to personal and professional interests, and these matches are facilitated with original social games. We primarily work with corporate audiences to heighten employee engagement.

What’s your traction been like thus far?
We’ve worked with some small companies and a handful of Fortune 500 companies. Our clients in both markets were very happy with the service, but we’ve decided to focus on large corporations for the near future because the potential for scale is much greater.

What do you know now that you wish you would have known when you started Zealyst?
The greatest challenges along the way have proven to be the greatest opportunities. We got discouraged early on by some setbacks that turned out to be calls to innovate and improve the business model. We now try to frame some of our most difficult hurdles as opportunities to learn and grow rather than let them beat us down.

What’s a hypothesis that you’ve had that has failed? And how did you respond?
n the very early days, we thought that just matching people and putting them in a room together would be enough. We learned very quickly from the feedback that participants wanted more facilitation, which is why we started designing games.

How would you describe your company culture?
Playful.

What’s your favorite startup in Seattle? (Besides your own!)
We stink at picking favorites, because we love so many! We’re looking forward to dominating Apptentive and LikeBright in the Snuggie Olympics this summer.

What’s your favorite thing about being a startup in Seattle?
We stink at picking favorites, because we love so many! We’re looking forward to dominating Apptentive and LikeBright in the Snuggie Olympics this summer.

What’s your favorite thing about being an entrepreneur?
The endless responsibility to create. Every day, we have to come up with new ideas, address new challenges, or change direction entirely. It’s never dull!

What does the future hold for Zealyst?
We’re looking forward to launching a new product at the end of the summer designed specifically for our corporate clients. It’s going to greatly increase our ability to reach more people and spread the Zeal.

What does success look like for your company?
Building a company where everyone involved is proud of the impact we’re making, feels financially secure, emotionally supported, and is excited to come to work each day- and doing all of that while offering a return that makes our investors happy.

Seahawks, Sounders, Mariners or Huskies?
Zebras.

If your company was an animal, what would it be and why?
Zebra. They’re pretty amazing animals- they’ve got the whole unique stripes thing going on, they’re the only equine never to be domesticated, and they have great night vision. Plus, they form these tightly knit social groups calls “zeals” that allow them to survive and thrive in the wild.

If you were to take your company on a date, where would it want to go?
Burning Man
