What’s your traction been like thus far?
Really Strong. We’re helping several Fortune 50 brands (and many others) solve their toughest problems in social.
What do you know now that you wish you would have known when you started Inside Social?
That Rome wasn’t built in a day. We started with very unrealistic expectations of how quickly we’d reach success. For all but very few startups, it takes extended time to make things work. We’ve learned to enjoy the journey as much the destination.
What’s a hypothesis that you’ve had that has failed? And how did you respond?
We initially hypothesized that increasing the quantity and quality of social followers was the most important thing for large brands, but in talking to potential customers we learned that it wasn’t. So we spent tons of time talking to them, learning from them, and empathizing with them to understand exactly what their biggest pain points are. We learned that generating social ROI was the toughest thing on their plates and we became driven to solve that. Customer-centricity is in our DNA.
What’s your favorite startup in Seattle? (Besides your own!)
Simply Measured. They’ve built an amazing SaaS business in the social analytics space. And they are tremendous content marketers.
What’s your favorite thing about being a startup in Seattle?
Given that all of our founders were born here, we’re passionate about contributing to Seattle’s ecosystem. We love supporting other talented Seattle entrepreneurs and cheering on their successes.
What’s your favorite thing about being an entrepreneur?
Absolute accountability. Whether things go right or things go wrong, there’s no finger-pointing. It’s up to the team and only the team to get things done. Granted there are many things out of our control, but the chance to live and die by our own successes and failures is extremely rewarding.
What does the success look like for Inside Social?
Empowering our customers to maximize the value of social marketing in improving their own businesses. We believe that importance of social as a channel will continue to increase exponentially and we want to make sure our customers take full advantage of that.
What’s your favorite local sports team?
All of them.
If your company were an animal, what would it be and why?
Honey Badger. We’re incredibly scrappy and we’ll do whatever it takes to make our customers happy.
If you were to take Inside Social on a date, where would it want to go?
Paris. Inside Social is a romantic at heart.
