What is DealScoopr?
DealScoopr helps travelers find the best flight and hotel deals. Based on your personal preferences, social profile, location and tens of other signals, we create the most personalized travel experience and find you the best travel deals out there.
What’s your traction been like thus far?
We’ve seen some amazing user growth during the past few months. We’ve also received some good press lately. We were recently featured on Mashable as the #1 startup making travel affordable, and were also featured on the LA Times, Tnooz and the Puget Sound Business Journal.
What do you know now that you wish you would have known when you started DealScoopr?
Building a travel startup is really hard. Online travel is a crowded space and getting access to travel inventory (flight and hotel deals) is difficult. It took us a lot longer than expected to build the right channel partnerships.
What’s a hypothesis that you’ve had that has failed? And how did you respond?
We initially thought that users would love to find travel deals to visit their friends and family.
So the initial version of DealScoopr focused on showing users how they could save money on visiting their friends. We later found that this was solving only part of the problem.
So we then expanded DealScoopr to allow users to set their trip preferences and use social signals to further recommend interesting places their friends were traveling to.
What’s your favorite startup in Seattle? (Besides your own!)
HUB Seattle. They’re building an amazing community for entrepreneurship and innovation.
What’s your favorite thing about being an entrepreneur?
The freedom to think big and the ability to actually make that vision a reality.
What’s your favorite local sports team?
Sounders! I grew up in Zambia where football ( what the rest of the world calls soccer) is a national pastime.
If your company were an animal, what would it be and why?
An Eagle because eagles can spot their prey from far. Similarly, DealScoopr can spot hard to find travel deals.
If you were to take your company on a date, where would it want to go? Why?
We’d scoop a deal from DealScoopr and take our team and families on a vacation to a beach destination.
